Description

A Cold Air Intake System relocates the filter outside of the engine compartment to deliver the coolest air inlet temperatures possible. Cooler air carries more oxygen, which translates into a more intense explosion in the combustion chamber to create more horsepower and torque. But that's only part of the power equation. Tuning the inlet pipe in length and diameter to match the engine's resonance helps move more air to the cylinders (think of your engine as a big air pump), and this tuning allows us to deliver the maximum power gains throughout the entire RPM range.

I installed this SPELAB Cold Air Intake on my 2015 F250 6.7l and now I get a check engine light for EGR excessive airflow detected. I am tuned and deleted, using the h&s mini maxx v2 tuner. Why am I getting this DTC and check engine light with this cold air intake kit?

SPELAB

When installing a cold air intake kit, it is possible to encounter a Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and a check engine light. There are a few reasons why this might occur:

MAF Sensor: Cold air intake kits often include a different Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or modify the existing one. If the new MAF sensor is not properly calibrated or if there is an issue with the installation, it can cause incorrect readings and trigger a DTC.

Air/Fuel Ratio: Changing the intake system can affect the air/fuel ratio of the engine. If the engine control unit (ECU) detects that the air/fuel mixture is outside the expected range, it will trigger a DTC and illuminate the check engine light.

Heat Soak: Some cold air intake kits place the air filter in a location where it can be exposed to excessive heat from the engine bay. This can cause the intake air temperature to rise, leading to readings that are outside the expected range and triggering a DTC.

Sensor Placement: In some cases, the placement of sensors, such as the intake air temperature sensor or the oxygen sensor, may be affected by the installation of the cold air intake kit. If these sensors are not properly positioned or connected, it can cause incorrect readings and trigger a DTC.

To resolve these issues, you can try the following steps:

Check the installation: Ensure that the cold air intake kit is properly installed, all connections are secure, and there are no vacuum leaks. Double-check the MAF sensor installation and make sure it is correctly calibrated if necessary.

Reset the ECU: Disconnect the battery for a few minutes to reset the ECU. This can clear any stored DTCs and may resolve the issue.

Check for air leaks: Inspect the intake system for any air leaks that could be affecting the air/fuel ratio. Repair or replace any damaged components as needed.

Consult a professional: If the issue persists, it is recommended to consult a professional mechanic or the manufacturer of the cold air intake kit for further assistance. They may have specific recommendations or solutions for your particular situation.

Remember that modifying the intake system can have an impact on the vehicle's emissions and performance. It's essential to ensure that any modifications comply with local laws and regulations.

Is this considered a high flow air intake?

SPELAB

Yes usually any open filter intake is high flow intake. It’s not trapped inside a plastic box allowing much more direct airflow.

After this air intake product is modified, will the car inhale gas more efficiently?

SPELAB

Of course. It is particularly important to improve the engine's ability to inhale gas, that is, to improve the engine's charging efficiency.
