What Is a CAN Bus Plug Kit?

A CAN Bus plug kit supplies terminating plugs that take the place of emissions components removed from your truck’s CAN (Controller Area Network) bus. When NOx sensors or the DEF module are unplugged during an exhaust conversion, the ECM sees an open circuit and reacts with fault codes and dashboard warnings. These plugs fill those connections and return a closed signal, so the control module reads the circuit as complete.

After installing an aftermarket exhaust or delete pipe, L5P owners run into the same frustrating symptoms. An open CAN connection is often the culprit:

Fitment

Designed for 2017–2023 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 2500/3500 HD with the 6.6L L5P Duramax.

Match the plug color to your harness. On 2017–2019 models, check the connector located inside the frame on the front passenger side — if that plug is white, order the white CAN Bus plug. Taking thirty seconds to confirm the color before ordering saves you a return and a second round of shipping.

Typical Installation Sequence

1. Complete the mechanical exhaust work first (aftermarket exhaust or delete pipe).
2. Locate the NOx sensor and DEF module connectors being taken out of service.
3. Disconnect the factory component and seat the CAN Bus plug firmly until it clicks.
4. Secure the plug and any loose harness away from exhaust heat and moving parts.
5. Load your tuning, then clear codes and verify no emissions faults return.
