What Is a Powerstroke Delete Kit?
If you're driving a 2015 F350 or 2020 F250—you've likely come across the term Powerstroke delete kit. But what does it actually mean?
A Powerstroke delete kit is a bundle of parts designed to remove or bypass emissions control systems such as the DPF (Diesel Particulate Filter), DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid) system, and EGR (Exhaust Gas Recirculation) valve. These systems are installed to meet federal emissions regulations but can restrict engine performance and lead to long-term reliability issues, especially for trucks used in heavy towing or off-road applications.
A typical 6.7 Powerstroke delete kit for a 2019 F350 may include a stainless steel DPF delete pipe, EGR block-off plates, coolant bypass hoses, and a delete tuner to disable the sensors and prevent engine codes. These kits are built to free up horsepower, improve fuel economy, and reduce maintenance costs.

Top 5 Benefits of a 6.7 Powerstroke Delete Kit
Installing a 6.7 Powerstroke delete kit is one of the most effective upgrades for unlocking your diesel engine’s true potential. By removing restrictive emissions systems like the DPF, EGR, DEF, and CCV, you allow the engine to operate more freely and efficiently.
Here are the top five reasons why owners choose to delete:
1. Improved Horsepower and Torque
With reduced exhaust backpressure, your engine breathes better. This leads to quicker throttle response, stronger towing power, and a more satisfying driving experience.
2. Increased Fuel Efficiency
Eliminating the DPF regeneration process and DEF injection system often results in fuel savings. Many drivers report noticeable MPG gains during highway and load-heavy driving.
3. Cleaner Engine Operation
The EGR system often causes carbon buildup inside the intake manifold. A delete kit helps keep your engine internals cleaner, reducing the chances of long-term wear or clogging.
4. Lower Maintenance Costs
No more replacing clogged EGR valves, faulty DPF sensors, or refilling DEF fluid. Once deleted, your engine becomes easier and cheaper to maintain.
5. Greater Tuning Flexibility
A delete kit opens the door to performance tuning. Pair it with a compatible tuner to optimize your engine for power, reliability, or off-road performance. With fewer emissions restrictions and cleaner airflow, your Powerstroke runs cooler, pulls harder, and lasts longer—exactly what diesel owners are looking for.
Is a Powerstroke Delete Kit Legal? What You Need to Know Before Installing
While a Powerstroke delete kit can significantly improve your engine’s performance and reliability, it’s important to understand the legal implications before installing one. In the U.S. and Canada, most on-road vehicles—especially those equipped with DPF, EGR, and DEF systems—are subject to strict emissions regulations.
Installing a delete kit on a street-registered vehicle may violate emissions laws.
Delete Kits Are Intended for the Following Use Cases:
-
Off-road use only (e.g., racing, farming, or private land)
-
Non-registered vehicles that don't undergo emissions testing
-
Engine testing or custom tuning environments
All SPELAB Powerstroke delete kits are clearly labeled as “For Off-Road Use Only.” We strongly recommend checking your local emissions laws before purchasing or installing a kit. For example, states like California and New York have some of the strictest emissions rules, and any emissions tampering—even for performance purposes—may result in serious penalties.
Some drivers choose to pair delete kits with a delete tuner to bypass emissions sensors. While this may temporarily avoid warning lights or check engine codes, it’s not a legal solution for on-road driving and may void warranties or fail in future updates.
Always research your local laws and ensure your vehicle use case qualifies as off-road. Staying compliant means enjoying your upgrades with peace of mind.

FAQ
Q1: Will I get a check engine light after installing a delete kit on my 2017 F250?
No. When paired with a proper delete tuner, the SPELAB delete kit disables the sensors tied to your DPF, EGR, and DEF systems, preventing check engine lights (CEL) or ECU errors.
Q2: Will a delete kit improve fuel economy?
Yes. Many drivers report fuel savings of 1–2 MPG after installing a Powerstroke delete kit. The difference is especially noticeable during highway cruising or when towing heavy loads.
Q3: Can I install the delete kit myself?
Absolutely. Every SPELAB kit comes with detailed instructions, gaskets, bolts, and pre-fitted sensor ports—making it ideal for DIY installs if you have basic mechanical skills.
Q4: Will installing a delete kit cause inspection or registration issues?
If your area enforces emissions regulations, removing the DPF or EGR system may cause your vehicle to fail inspection. All SPELAB kits are marked “For Off-Road Use Only,” and should be used in legal, non-registered applications.
Q5: Can I use a delete kit with a tuner?
Definitely. We recommend pairing your kit with a delete tuner, which not only disables emissions systems but also unlocks performance tuning options to help your Powerstroke engine reach its full potential.

Awesome product I put the 3" cutouts on my 78 nova and they work great. Easy to install.
After installing the Spelab intake my EGT’s have lowered about 150/200 degrees from stock! I tow 90% of the time with this truck, I should have done this upgrade way earlier!
This kit came in a very nice box with all the necessary hardware to complete the installation without any modifications. Installation time was about two hours working methodically by myself with some occasional help from my 13 year old son as he passed through the garage. As many others have commented it would be nice to have some printed instructions with the kit, but it is not hard to figure out. I went with the red version because it was the cheapest, and I think it looks great. After installation, custom tuning with a mm3 tuner, and an upgraded exhaust the 6.7 is opened up and free to run.
Great components solid workmanship very happy with the product and looks really rood. I went with the red
I am a mechanic so it’s hard for me to say someone with absolutely no skills that this is easy. But watch YouTube I will say everyone is worried about the egr exhaust bolts. But one video he sprayed them and soak them. I had sprayed mine each time I drove the truck and every morning for 4 days. Than another video a guy said drive the truck get it hot than when you go to take them out hit the socket and extension with hammer to loosen them. So I also did this. They all came out with absolutely no problem. I did have to take off my intake cause I did the ccv and disaster kit as well. And these bolts did not get sprayed. And one did break! I was able to get it out with wd40 and pb blaster and tapping with hammer. To drop dpf I sprayed the hangers with pb blaster used a pry bar and they pop right off. Remember when taking that off you might miss a coupe connectors so take your time! Also the back of dpf I had two broken studs and one so rusted that I had to use a grinder. After got it out I had to take a drill to my existing manifold cause the rusted bolts closed up the holes. Currently I left my dpf tank in the truck. I plan on removing it but I don’t have a reason yes!
Make sure to read all instructions and again take your time. I’m currently having issues updating the mini max cause I didn’t do it before install. But spe hands down was amazing the products everything was perfect besides the intake. The mass air flow sensor didn’t fit and to clean the metal shavings I used brake clean and it melted there spray paint on that one product, everything else i believe is powder coated. I know it’s not part of this kit but the cp4 disaster kit make sure you tighten hose clamps I did not do this and it cam off so I had to take upper and lower intake off on the side of the road and lucky the truck didn’t burn down. But I would say that was my fault for not verifying!
Fits great! Easy install! All parts come with this as well didn’t need to go out and get anything. Not only that but the price man that’s damn good
Good fitment on all items. All block off plates fit good and dont leak. Downpipe fits perfectly. All gaskets included good quality.
I’m so happy with my egr delete kit and intake. I made the best decision in choosing Spelab to enhance my 2500 ram truck. I’ll keep buying more stuff from them. It’s starting to be an addiction!! Thanks Spelab!!
The exhaust and muffler fit great. Had to make one cut but that took no more than a couple minutes to measure and make the cut. I’m very pleased with the muffler included, sounds good but keeps the noise down and no drone in the cab. Will buy again.
Everything fit great. The finish is good and it includes everything you need to get rid of that POs Egr cooler
You know how it goes when you try to save a dollar, you cut cost of quality. But this is actually not the case so far. Finish is smooth, no bad cuts that i could see. Plate wasn’t warped with was a concern for me but no leaks this far. I’d buy again
Love the pipe however one band clamp was damaged upon arrival. I was able to bend it back to the correct form and use it. All hangers were in the correct location took about 30 mins for me to install by myself.
Intake came in nice and shiny looks like a great product also got the red intake plate and man oh man does it look sharp, overall I recommend Spelab products. Looks clean performs even better
Comes quickly in a little box. I work on my truck but am no mechanic. It took me 2 hours to remove and install the kit. Im very happy with the outcome. Im going to give it 5 starts but you do have to reuse the two gaskets on the EGR cooler. My advice is pick them up from the parts store so its all new. Total cost is $24 for both. They should be included but im still very happy.
Great product. Does everything it is supposed to do. I do wish it came with printed instructions. Following along with greasy fingers on my phone was problematic. Also, the hose fitting for the coolant line was a size too small. I had to purchase the correct size.
