EFILive V3 Delete Kit FAQ

EFILive is a diesel tuning and diagnostics platform made up of Windows software and the handheld AutoCal device that connects to the truck; it is also written as EFI Live or efilive. The AutoCal V3 is the current-generation EFILive device - it stores calibrations, log files and device configuration, then flashes them to the engine controller through the OBDII port. The device ships without tune files: EFILive supplies the hardware and software, and custom tunes are written by a tuning provider for your specific VIN and modifications.

The V2 and V3 options are two different tuning platforms, not two generations of the same device. The V2 option is a handheld delete tuner with preloaded delete tunes, on-device setting selection and a full-time gauge monitor - no computer needed. The V3 options use the EFILive AutoCal V3: tune files are custom-built by a tuning provider for your specific VIN and modifications and loaded from a Windows PC. The AutoCal V3 offers 512MB of internal storage, file transfers up to 10 times faster, support for up to 600 VIN licenses, built-in USB drivers (it shows up as a standard Windows USB drive), and a backup power supply that protects data if power is interrupted during a flash. V3 with SOTF adds a Shift-on-the-Fly tune, so supported power levels can be switched from the in-cab rotary switch while driving. Without Tuner ships the delete hardware only.

It depends on the kit. On the EFILive all-in-one kit, selecting V2, V3, or V3 with SOTF includes the tuner with a calibration. On the OBDII flash all-in-one kit, the OBDII Flash Delete Tuning Interface is an option but credits and the tune file are not included - the option is listed as "OBDII Tuner (won't include file)", and tune files and credits are sold separately through the in-store tuning package. The all-in-one kit with selectable exhaust includes the full tuning package (OBDII interface, tune file and credits; the ECM unlock kit is included on the earlier year group). Tune files are VIN-matched: after ordering you submit your vehicle details, the file is built for your truck, and it is flashed through the OBDII port. Contact SPELAB and we will confirm exactly what your selection includes before you buy.

Yes. Every kit in this collection offers a Without Tuner option for owners who already have a compatible EFILive device. On the all-in-one kit the Without Tuner configurations start at $79 depending on the EGR and CCV options you select.

Start with your engine platform - the kits in this collection are grouped by platform because the tuner option and ECM requirements differ between them. Each product page lists the exact model years, cab configurations and fitment exclusions for that kit, so open the matching product page to confirm fitment. Send us your engine code and model year and we will point you to the right EFILive kit, or confirm it for you before you order.

It depends on the year group. Earlier group: ECM unlock required (E41 ECM) plus 4 credits, with a 5-level SOTF tune package available. Middle group: no unlock required, 4 credits, 5-level SOTF available. Newest group: a single calibration tune is used and the ECM requires an E42 unlock service - which is not included in the kit - plus 8 credits. For any unlock, make sure the batteries are fully charged; low voltage can cause the unlock to fail.

Four things prevent most flashing problems: (1) connect a quality battery charger - low voltage during a flash can corrupt the process and damage the ECM; (2) update the AutoCal firmware first (Check for Updates, then Check Firmware in EFILive V8 Scan and Tune); (3) confirm the tune file name matches the last digits of your VIN before programming; (4) turn the ignition to ON without starting the engine, and do not power your laptop from a DC-to-AC inverter while connected to the vehicle. Also save a copy of your stock calibration before your first custom flash - you will need it for warranty work or resale.

Yes. Loading firmware, tune files and updates is done from a Windows 10+ PC using the EFILive V8 Scan and Tune software. The AutoCal V3 appears as a standard USB drive, so no separate drivers are needed - but Mac is not supported. If you prefer a no-computer workflow with app-based tune delivery, a cloud-connected platform may suit you better - see our cloud-connected tune packages for that alternative.

The AutoCal V3 ships with one VIN license, which ties the device to one engine controller. It can be configured to support up to 600 VIN licenses, and additional VIN licenses can be purchased using your device serial number and authentication code. Note that tune files themselves are vehicle-specific - each truck needs its own custom file built for its VIN and modifications.
