Not always. P0299 means the engine is not reaching expected boost pressure, but the cause can be a boost leak, wastegate issue, actuator problem, vacuum leak, sensor fault, or worn turbo. Inspect the full boost system before replacing the turbocharger.

The 2008-2010 6.4L Powerstroke uses a compound turbo system. The high-pressure turbo supports quicker response and low-rpm boost, while the low-pressure turbo supports higher airflow under load. They are different parts, so confirm which one has failed before ordering.
