Tuner DeIete l SPELAB
This software-based solution enables a complete DEF delete using a compatible delete tuner, and is also available as part of SPELAB’s full DEF delete kit lineup for RAM, Duramax, and Powerstroke platforms.. This software-based solution enables a complete DEF delete using a compatible delete tuner, simplifying the engine management system while improving throttle response and reliability.
For example, installing a tailored 6.7 Cummins delete tuner on a 2018 Dodge Ram 2500 with a 6.7L Cummins diesel engine allows for full DEF, DPF, and EGR removal while boosting horsepower gains by up to 100 HP.
SPELAB offers a wide range of delete kit options designed to meet the needs of drivers looking to balance legal off-road modification with high-performance tuning.
How the SPELAB Tuner Delete Kit Works?
The SPELAB Tuner Delete kit isn’t just a performance mod—it’s an advanced recalibration system designed to eliminate the restrictions caused by factory-installed emissions equipment. By flashing your truck’s ECU,the delete tuner disables components such as the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) injection system, Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF), and Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) system, effectively functioning as a DPF tuner delete solution for diesel performance setups. These systems, while designed to meet government emissions standards, often reduce engine efficiency and create long-term reliability issues, especially in heavy-duty applications like towing or off-road use.
Once the delete kit is installed, your engine enters a new calibration profile. This profile optimizes boost pressure, fuel delivery, and throttle response, allowing the engine to perform at its true potential. Installing a DEF delete kit not only improves reliability but also removes DEF-related service schedules, especially important in cold-weather regions where DEF delete can prevent freezing injector issues.
Owners of 2012 Ram 2500 6.7L Cummins diesel trucks and 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD Duramax have reported up to 100 additional horsepower gains, improved torque curves, and a significant drop in DEF consumption—because it’s no longer needed. Even more impressively, the 6.7 Cummins tuner delete has become a go-to solution for users in colder climates where frozen DEF systems are a frequent issue.
The result? Less time in regeneration mode, fewer CELs (Check Engine Lights), reduced maintenance costs, and dramatically smoother throttle engagement. For daily drivers, this means better fuel economy. For work trucks, it means more reliable performance under load. And for off-road enthusiasts, it unlocks the freedom to mod without compromise.
SPELAB Delete Tuner Lineup & Vehicle Compatibility
SPELAB currently offers a wide range of high-performance delete tuner products, including the popular Mini Maxx V1, the upgraded Mini Maxx V2, the EFILive AutoCal V3 built for GM Duramax platforms, and the Commander Tuner designed for Ford Powerstroke engines.
Each of these delete tuners supports full DEF delete, DPF delete, and EGR delete, and can be purchased as part of a complete DEF delete kit for your diesel truck., with compatibility spanning diesel platforms from 2007.5–2021 Dodge Ram 6.7L Cummins, 2008–2010 Ford 6.4L Powerstroke, to the 2017–2023 Chevrolet Silverado 6.6L L5P Duramax.
Take the Mini Maxx V2 delete tuner as an example—it's optimized for 2018+ RAM Cummins and 2019+ Ford 6.7L Powerstroke trucks, offering support for Shift-On-The-Fly (SOTF) tuning and improved calibration stability. In contrast, the Mini Maxx V1 remains a solid option for 2011–2016 Duramax LML / LMM owners who prefer its reliable tuning architecture and broader third-party tune availability. For GM enthusiasts seeking maximum flexibility, the EFILive AutoCal V3 provides customizable tuning in the 60–120 HP range and supports key platforms like LML and L5P.
Notably, each delete kit produces different results depending on the truck and engine. For instance, users with a 2016 Ford F350 6.7L Powerstroke running the Commander Tuner Delete report MPG increases of up to 5.1. Meanwhile, a 2014 Duramax LML running the Mini Maxx V2 saw a 90 HP power gain and complete removal of regen cycles and DEF-related error codes.
Full Installation Guide for SPELAB Delete Tuner with Troubleshooting Tips
Proper installation of the SPELAB delete tuner is critical for a successful DEF, DPF, and EGR delete. Based on extensive feedback from RAM, Powerstroke, and Duramax owners, we’ve compiled a complete step-by-step process, including frequent issues and solutions. This guide is especially relevant for setups using the Mini Maxx V2, Commander Tuner, or EFILive V3 delete kit.
Step 1: Verify Compatibility and Required Components
Before you begin, double-check that you have all necessary components for your vehicle:
-
A Mini Maxx V2 delete kit for 6.7 Cummins (for 2018–2021 RAM models)
-
Bypass cable with red-striped OBD module: mandatory for 2018+ RAM and Ford trucks. Failure to install it properly will cause the tuner to freeze on the install screen.
-
Micro SD card + USB adapter: ensure it’s formatted and updated using the official SPELAB update agent.
If you’re installing on a 2020 Ford F250 6.7L Powerstroke, be sure to connect the bypass cable to the correct pin slot (typically the 5th port down on the green plug behind the dash). Incorrect installation can trigger “engine recovery mode” or prevent the tuner from proceeding.
Step 2: Disconnect Battery and Connect the Tuner
-
Disconnect the negative battery terminal to ensure stable voltage during ECU flashing.
-
Insert the updated SD card into the Mini Maxx, connect the HDMI cable to the tuner display, and plug the OBD box into the truck’s diagnostic port.
-
Avoid routing cables near the radio harness or instrument cluster—some users have reported interference with radio volume and touchscreen climate controls when cables are improperly placed.
Step 3: Begin the Install Download
-
Turn the key to the RUN position (do not start the engine), select your vehicle from the menu, and launch the “Install Download” process.
-
Use a battery charger rated at 10 amps or higher to maintain steady voltage. Smart chargers and jump packs often fail mid-flash due to timeout or low current.
-
The flashing process typically takes 3–6 minutes. Interruptions due to power loss or cable disconnection will force the unit into “engine recovery mode,” requiring a factory reflash or dealer intervention. This ensures that your DEF delete and DPF tuner delete process goes smoothly without triggering recovery mode or emissions-related errors.
Step 4: Finish Install and Reboot
-
Once the tune has finished installing, power down the vehicle and wait a few minutes.
-
Restart the system, navigate to “Diagnostics,” and clear any stored DTC codes.
-
If “Warm-Up Mode” appears on the tuner, this is normal. It limits power output until the engine reaches proper operating temperature. You can view or adjust this behavior under Menu > Vehicle Setup > Defueling.
Extra Tips & Common Fixes
-
If you encounter codes like 399 / 327 / 294 / C747, they likely point to issues like SD card errors, a locked ECM, or an unsupported vehicle.
-
Problems like loss of cruise control, weak throttle response, or a frozen instrument cluster may indicate the tuner is interfering with the truck’s CAN bus system. Unplugging the tuner often resolves these issues.
-
Does the tuner need to stay plugged in? No. Once installed, the tune remains even if the tuner is removed. If unplugged, it defaults to the “No Power” tune level but keeps all deletes active.
FAQ
Q1: My Mini Maxx is stuck on “Initializing Communication.” What should I do?
A: Disconnect the OBD plug, turn off the ignition, and remove battery cables for 5–10 minutes. Fully recharge both batteries using a 10A+ charger, reconnect, and attempt the install again. If the problem persists, try a different OBD cable or SD card.
Q2: After tuning, I’m getting “Engine Recovery Mode.”
A: This typically results from power loss or a data interruption during flashing. The only fix is to use the same tuner on the same truck to return to stock and reattempt the install. If the tuner can’t resolve it, you’ll need to have the ECM reflashed by a dealer or tuning shop.
Q3: My radio, Bluetooth, HVAC, or heated seats stopped working after install.
A: This often occurs when the tuner is interfering with the vehicle’s CAN bus. Try using a different OBD port or unplug the tuner to verify if the problem disappears. If it does, your model may not be fully compatible with the tuner’s wiring.
Q4: I can’t switch power levels (SOTF not working).
A: Vehicles like the 2011–2016 Duramax don’t support Shift-On-The-Fly (SOTF). To change power, you must go back into “Install Download” and reselect the tune. Some Ford Powerstroke PCM versions may also lack SOTF compatibility unless running updated 2023+ calibrations.
Q5: I’m getting error codes #399, #327, C747, or 294. What do they mean?
A:
#399 / #327 – SD card not recognized or formatted incorrectly. Use a 4–8GB card, FAT32 format, and reload update files.
C747 – Locked ECM or unsupported truck model (usually RAM 4500–5500).
#294 – Vehicle not supported, such as early 2010–2012 RAM 4500 series.
Contact SPELAB support to request an exchange or model-compatible update.
Q6: My tuner has a black screen and just beeps.
A: Try powering it via USB to a PC. If it doesn’t respond, the unit may be defective and require replacement.
Recovery Recommendations:
-
Always back up your stock tune before installing a delete kit.
-
If you’ve had multiple failed installs, avoid force-flashing—reset to stock first.
-
Only use update files and agents downloaded directly from the official SPELAB website.
-
Use a Windows 10/11 PC for updates. Avoid Mac OS or auto-extract utilities that may corrupt the update file.

I have a 2017 Ram 2500 2wd and looking to make it last as long as possible. With extra fluid capacity and cooling fins, I felt that this is better than stock. The hardware that came with it looks great and appreciated because I was going to replace the old anyways. Even the gasket is heavy-duty and looks like it's reusable if needed. Not a thin felt like material but a thicker quality rubber. Shipping was like 4 days. I am pleased with my purchase and would highly recommend it.
Highly recommend clean, good quality, fast shipping. 100% haves my business is had my power coated
Everything went in and on very smoothly everything fit and as should only thing I will say is does not come with bolts for up pipe and the gaskets are decent but would upgrade to some mahle gaskets and get a set of ppe up pipe bolts other than that very solid affordable set of parts the coating on the up pipe will burn off due to heat but it does not affect performance of part or affect truck at all definitely recommend if your looking for performance parts while trying to save some money it definitely gave my Lly duramax the tone and power I was looking for!
I received a box with no grid heater delete got a hold of customer service and receive one in three days. Fantastic service.
Install was easy works great at a fraction of the price. Heat element started truck at 8 degrees the other day just like the original grid heater did.
Worth the money and 1/4 of the price 100% recommend them i run the pipe 1 my dad runs there newer style both are worth the money. And just put 1 on my father's in-law truck.
Installed on ford e350 super duty dana 70fit was perfect
Having trouble keeping clap rings on the hose and pipe they keep blowing off when boost pressure coming up.
Perfect fitment and function.
I have a 2005 ram with the 5.7 I had a 2018 challenger with duel coil packs so I got this valve cover to fit and used the mmx adapters and boom! Looks amazing. Only thing is the screws and lock washers are not good...torque specs will break the lock washers and I think one coil thread hole got stripped but other than that I got it too work. Thanks!
Install was easy as long as you take the fuel line off the manifold and reinstall it after bolting down the intake. It also helps having an intake heater since removing the grid heater. No more check engine lights after a cold start. The quality of Spelabs products are great. And the price point is even better.
combined it with the intake horn, new intercooler and pipe kit. added the valve cover. Seems to function well. instructions were adequate- could be better. I assume a few of the complaints on the reviews may have been instruction related. We will see how it compares- ran stock for 230k- will try this now.
Bought this kit as part of a larger overall DCR Pump conversion. Kit came quick, complete and works as advertised.
Very pleased with spelab. My horn is awesome and arrived in great shape. The heating element however I was not so lucky with. It arrived damaged. I reached out to spelabs support and they promptly sent me a new one free of charge. Installing that tonight. 5 stars
Happy to eliminate the risk from the oem grid heater bolt. This allows way more air than the oem too. I chose red and the red on the horn isn't the same shade as the manifold cover or throttle valve delete that are also spelab but the quality and price point is what I look for
