What Do These DPF Delete Kits Actually Do? (And What Gains Can You Expect?)
While the benefits of a DPF delete on Powerstroke engines are clear in terms of performance, there are a few things to consider:
Pros:
-
Major gains in horsepower, torque, and fuel efficiency
-
Lower EGTs and less wear on turbo components
-
No more costly DPF regen cycles or filter replacements
-
Simpler exhaust system, easier to troubleshoot
Cons:
-
For off-road or race use only – not legal on public roads in most areas
-
Will require ECU tuning or delete tuner to avoid check engine lights
-
Removal may void emissions-related warranty
For the 6.7 Powerstroke DPF Delete (2011–2022 F250/F350/F450/F550):
-
Horsepower Increase: +40–60 HP
-
Torque Boost: +90–120 lb-ft
-
Fuel Economy: Up to 2–4 MPG improvement
-
EGT Reduction: Up to 200°F lower Exhaust Gas Temperatures (critical for towing applications)
The 6.7 Powerstroke downpipe-back and DP-back exhaust systems are especially popular for 2017+ models, as they remove restrictive factory components and pair seamlessly with tuning software for full performance unlock.
For the 6.4 Powerstroke DPF & CAT Delete Pipe (2008–2010 F-series SuperDuty):
-
Performance Recovery: Restores power lost to emissions systems
-
Turbo Efficiency: Freer spool-up, less lag
-
Maintenance Reduction: Eliminate DPF regens, fewer sensor-related faults
-
Sound Upgrade: Deep, aggressive turbo-diesel tone without drone
For the 3.0 Powerstroke DPF Delete Kit (Ford F150 Diesel, 2018–2021):
-
Turbo-Back Systems give up to +30 HP gains and improved low-end torque, especially when paired with aftermarket tuning.
-
Race Pipes remove the DPF alone for lighter installs with solid drivability improvements.

FAQ
Q1: Is a DPF delete legal for my 6.7 Powerstroke?
A: DPF delete kits, including those for the 6.7 Powerstroke and 6.4 Powerstroke, are for off-road or competition use only. They are not legal for on-road use in many areas, especially states with strict emissions laws like California and New York. Always check your local regulations before installation.
Q2: What tuner do I need for a DPF delete 6.7 Powerstroke setup?
A: You’ll need a custom EFI Live or SCT delete tuner compatible with your model year to disable DPF functions and prevent check engine lights. Some popular brands include EZ Lynk, HP Tuners, and SCT. The tuner must match your engine year—for example, a 2020 Ford F350 6.7 Powerstroke requires a different strategy file than a 2014 version.
Q3: Can I install the DPF delete kit myself?
A: Yes—SPELAB DPF delete kits are designed with bolt-on compatibility for most models, like the 2005 6.0 Powerstroke 5 inch turbo back exhaust and 6.7L downpipe-back systems. If you have basic mechanical tools and follow the included instructions (or our video tutorials), you can install it in 2–4 hours. Some tuning may require professional setup.
Q4: What happens to my fuel economy after deleting the DPF?
A: Most users see a 2–4 MPG increase on average, depending on driving habits and tuning. For example, a Ford F250 6.7 Powerstroke DPF delete truck used for towing often reports better throttle response and less turbo strain, improving both mileage and reliability.
Q5: Will a DPF delete void my warranty?
A: Yes. Any modification to emissions systems—including DPF, DEF, or EGR delete—can void emissions-related warranties. That said, many owners of out-of-warranty or purpose-built trucks choose to delete for the added performance, especially on the 6.0 Powerstroke or 6.4 Powerstroke platforms.
Q6: What’s the difference between a turbo-back and a DPF-back exhaust?
A:
-
Turbo-back replaces everything from the turbo outlet all the way to the tailpipe, offering the biggest airflow gains (great for full builds or racing).
-
DPF-back only replaces the exhaust after the DPF, ideal for users who want sound and minor flow gains without full emissions delete.
For example, the 3.0 Powerstroke 4” turbo-back gives more noticeable gains than a DPF-back kit alone.

As advertised works and looks great

Good stuff, love the kit. Installed it all myself under 6 hours. Now I need to find a way to keep the minimax from getting unplugged when I hit a bump

Easy to install, quality parts, and sound better than I expected. I would recommend these to others. Instructions are on line.

Intake horn is real nice, block off plate is real nice, gaskets are decent. I removed first 3 fuel lines and the cp3 line and had mine done in about 4hr by myself start to finish. 2012 Cummins. No cel, no issues. Took away a lot of the black smoking. Increased boost noticeably. Five stars.

Good fit, sounds awesome, definitely made a difference, hose clamps could be a little better, holes was off a little for the sensors, but for the price overall good product!

They have great customer service what I order was much better than what I was expecting to receive thank you for guys for everything

This was a very easy install, the parts seems to be good quality.

Great products, the updates and revisions to there parts show they care about making things better. 100% would buy all my parts from Spelab.

Directions were not good and there isn’t a heater bolt yet..but the product is great and you can’t beat the price. Happy with the product.

This is a good upgrade. I change the rear differential fluid frequently so now I will be able to drain and refill more easily. Easy install. No leaking. Hardware and gasket included. Very happy

I was impressed with the build quality. And very happy with the cover features: fill plug, drain plug, sight glass, nice paint, cooling fins and machined channels on the inside to direct fluid flow. I also put in some AMSOIL diff fluid. A winning combo. Love that gasket and premium hardware is included. A much better deal than the Banks cover. This cover will cool plenty abd direct fluids where it needs to go. I’m happy with my investment and highly recommend.

Fairly straight forward to install. My truck seems to be running and breathing a ton better.

Installed this billet version onto my 2019 Roush F150 recently. I wanted a cover that had the proper fluid flow vaning and fill and drain plugs to make future fluid changes easier, as I plan to renew the fluid every 30k miles. The sight glass so you can see the level and the condition of the fluid is also a great feature. I did quite a bit of research on which cover I wanted to install and saw the fluid flow issues with the square back covers, whereas this one has the proper curved design and vanes in it to direct the fluid that's coming over the top to the correct places of the differential for proper lubrication. I went with the billet one so that it's stronger than the lower priced cast version, as I keep my vehicles forever (20 years and 200k miles or more) and would rather do it right one time than have to do it again. The magnetic plugs to capture any ferrous gear wear is also a nice benefit. Installed with LubeLocker gasket.

Fit like crap. As did the down pipe. I got ppe ones and no refund from spelab

Fits very well and is really well constructed. Also looks really good installed in the truck!
