Installation & Power
- Q: The tuner install instructions say there is a fuse to be removed list for the GM products that I can't locate is there another source?
- A: The "fuse card" part is a typo that was printed on our first few batches of packaging. There is no fuse card and no fuse needed to be pulled. You just need to wire the power wire into a switched 12v fuse to power the tuner off and on with the ignition. Locate your fuse box then use a 12v test light or multimeter to measure DC voltage, connect one end to a grounding point and use the other end to probe the pins on the top of the fuses with the ignition on and take note of which fuses have ~12v. Then turn the ignition off and check the fuses you noted down to find one that doesn't have power (check both sides), that will be our ignition source. *Some may find it easier to remove the fuse and probe the contacts within the fuse box rather than leaving the fuse installed and probing the much smaller points on the top of the fuse.
- Q: With the power cord hooked up to a 12-volt switch during installation, should the tuner remain on at all times, even if the truck is off?
- A: It doesn't have to be on all the time.
- Q: Where do I wire the fuse tap?
- A: You will need to find a fuse that gets switched ignition power (12V with key in ON position and 0V with key OFF).
Tuning & Connection Issues
- Q: Tried updating it but it still shows that the communication is being initialised?
- A: Ensure the SD card is fully slotted into the device. If the Tuner is stuck "initializing communication", try the two methods below:
Method #1
- Disconnect the tuner from the OBD-II port and turn off the ignition.
- Disconnect all battery cables.
- Leaving the batteries disconnected, charge both batteries to full.
- Re-connect the battery cables, install tuner and turn on the ignition.
- Select Diagnostics and clear any codes.
- Select Install Download and follow all of the prompts on the screen with the exception of turning off the ignition. Press Continue while the ignition is still on.
Method #2
- Unplug your tuner cable from the OBD port that supplies power.
- Slowly plug the cable in until the tuner beeps, ensuring only the two longest (power) pins make contact with the OBD port.
- Once powered up press the top-left button (menu) and scroll down to change the vehicle.
- Plug in the tuner the rest of the way in and attempt to tune the vehicle.
- Q: The programmer constantly loses connection at initial start up, no cruise control, and flashes low coolant level?
- A: Please ensure that all cables and connections function properly, and that nothing is loose. If you uninstall the device, and cruise control functions begin to work again, this device sounds like it isn't compatible with the vehicles operating system.
- Q: After installing tune now have NO Cruise control and the boost gauge always reads zero when it’s definitely building boost how do resolve this problem?
- A: The boost gauge not working on LML Duramax's is a known issue, and has been for a while. https://www.minimaxx.ca/known-errors. In regards to the cruise control, when uninstalling the device from the vehicle, does the cruise work again? If so, this device is conflictive with your cruise control system, or there is an issue with the cruise control system post-flash.
- Q: If everything has been successfully updated but when trying to install it on the truck it says it's in engine recovery mode, what needs to be done to fix this?
- A: In regards to Engine Recovery Mode. The Mini Maxx 2 will go into recovery from a failed tune. We don't know what happened as we were not there but the only times we have seen this happen in-house is when the voltage dropped or a cable was unplugged during flashing. Only the same tuner used on the same truck will get it out of recovery mode. Reinstalling the same tuner will put it back to stock and then you can install it again to tune the truck. If the tuner will not get the truck out of recovery and it will not start, the truck needs to be flashed back to stock by the dealer.
Error Codes & Specific Vehicle Issues
- Q: 2014 ram 6.7. When tuned it gives a code u12a4. We added coolant and the coolant fault went away.
- A: We do not commonly run into U12A4. I would advise having this diagnosed.
- Q: Now we have DTC fault codes P051C, P04E2, P1478 and P1474. how do we clear these codes? I tried to clear these codes with the tuner, but the codes come back soon.
- A: It sounds like the clients CCV has been deleted, this device does not support CCV deletes. I would advise having these DTCs diagnosed.
- Q: The fault indicates a p2457 exhaust gas recirculation coolant performance issue. I used a probe removed from the exhaust section. What is the corrective action for the fault?
- A: We do not commonly run into this DTC. I would advise disconnecting the batteries for 10~ minutes, if the code persists, this sensor is most likely plugged in.
- Q: Now after tuner installation bank 1 injectors are not working at all and it throws code P1291 injector high side short to ground or VBatt-Bank and also P060A internal control module monitoring performance. Then returned it back to stock and those codes don't appear anymore. Reinstalled the tuner and codes are back, how to deal this?
- A: If you returned the vehicle to stock, and these codes disappeared, the device is not compatible with your vehicles software and or OS.
- Q: After the install and flash two codes popped up after 50 miles of driving. p04db and p0868.
- A: The Mini Maxx device does not support CCV deletes, only CCV reroutes. P0868 relates to Transmission Fluid Pressure Low, I would advise having this checked out.
General Operation & Display
- Q: The tuner is reading 241 percent and doesn't change and the mini max won't shut off until you unplug it. It reads 241 percent on the throttle all the time and when hooked to the scanner it reads 0 to 99 so it's not the truck and it keeps showing an ear code which it should be all deleted?
- A: The throttle reading 241 is normal, this is due to the throttle valve being unplugged.
- Q: Why does my tuner say "warm up mode"?
- A: Engine warmup mode is meant to limit power until temperatures are up to the operating range. This is controlled through the defueling parameters. You can check and adjust these settings as you see fit. [Menu > Vehicle Setup > Defueling]
- Q: The tuner sometimes changes color from blue to red what causes this?
- A: This is a device display glitch. The device is fine, just the displays color will flip and invert.
- Q: After a year of having this tuner my screen stopped coming on and just chirps or beeps, what can be the issue?
- A: Something internally within the unit could have came undone/disconnected, if the screen had stopped powering up, attempt to do so through the USB port on the side through a PC and or Laptop. If it does not power up through the USB port, this device is defective and will require a replacement.
