Exhaust Cutout Kits
What Is an Exhaust Cutout? Quick Start Guide
An exhaust cutout is a controllable valve that lets you switch your car’s exhaust path between the stock muffler system and a free-flowing straight pipe. With the push of a button, you can enjoy a deep, aggressive sound and improved throttle response—then switch back to quiet mode for daily driving.
The electric exhaust cutout is especially popular thanks to its fast actuation, better sealing, and easy remote control. It’s perfect for those who want dual personality—calm during the week, wild on the weekend.
SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kits are among the most trusted in the aftermarket space. Available in 2 inch, 2.25 inch, 2.5 inch, and 3 inch exhaust cutout sizes, these kits support various car platforms, from muscle cars and performance sedans to lifted trucks.
For example, a 2016 Dodge Charger R/T with a 5.7L V8 gains deeper exhaust tone, a power boost of 5–8 HP, and reduced backpressure after installing a 3 inch electric exhaust cutout. With the valve closed, it returns to quiet factory settings—ideal for residential driving.
SPELAB offers both weld-on and clamp-on installations, giving users flexible options depending on their setup. The remote is powered by common CR2016 or CR2032 batteries, making maintenance simple and hassle-free.
Whether you're upgrading just the valve or building a full custom exhaust system, SPELAB’s kits integrate seamlessly with aftermarket or OEM setups—enhancing flow, sound, and responsiveness without compromising daily drivability.
How to Choose the Right Exhaust Cutout Size for Your Vehicle
When selecting a kit from the SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kits lineup, choosing the correct size is essential. A properly matched exhaust cutout ensures better flow, clean installation, and optimal sound performance. The wrong size can lead to leaks, poor fitment, or disappointing results.
SPELAB offers several common electric exhaust cutout sizes:
- 2 inch exhaust cutout – Ideal for small-displacement NA engines like Honda Civic or Toyota Corolla
- 2.25 exhaust cutout – Best for 1.8T–2.5L turbocharged cars like Golf GTI or Subaru WRX
- 2.5 exhaust cutout – Great for mid-size performance engines like 370Z, Toyota Supra, or Lexus IS350
- 3 inch exhaust cutout – Designed for muscle cars and performance trucks such as Mustang GT, Camaro SS, Ram 1500 5.7L HEMI
- 4 inch cutout – Heavy-duty option for diesel trucks and custom builds
For example, a 2021 Camaro SS with a 6.2L V8 typically has a 3-inch factory exhaust, making the 3 inch exhaust cutout a perfect fit with no modification needed. On the other hand, a 2022 Honda Civic Sport 1.5T has a smaller exhaust size, so a 2.25 exhaust cutout would be more appropriate.
All SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kits include detailed sizing info and vehicle fitment guides. Whether you’re a DIY enthusiast or working with a performance shop, installation is straightforward via weld-on or clamp-on methods.
Pro Tip: Not sure what size your car needs? Measure the outer diameter of your exhaust pipe with a caliper, or contact SPELAB with your vehicle’s year, make, and model for expert recommendations.

Exhaust Cutout Installation Options: Weld-On, Clamp-On, or No-Cut?
One of the most common questions when selecting from the SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kits lineup is: Which installation method is best for me? SPELAB supports multiple options—weld-on, clamp-on, and no-cut (Be-Cut)—to suit your technical skills, budget, and long-term goals.
Weld-On Installation
The most secure method—ideal for long-term performance builds. Welded joints won’t loosen over time and offer superior flow. Best suited for large kits like the 3 inch exhaust cutout or 4.0 inch cutout, especially on powerful vehicles like the Ram 1500, Camaro SS, or Mustang GT.
Note: Requires professional tools and welding skills—not beginner-friendly.
Clamp-On Installation
Perfect for those wanting a reversible setup. No welding needed—just bolt the cutout onto your exhaust using U-bolts or V-clamps. Ideal for 2.25 inch and 2.5 inch exhaust cutouts. Quick, easy, and non-permanent—great for leased vehicles or first-time modders.
No-Cut Be-Cut Pipe Design
Exclusive to SPELAB, the Be-Cut Pipe Exhaust Cutout is designed for plug-and-play installation without cutting your factory exhaust. Just swap in the mid-section and bolt it up. Great for owners of cars like the 2022 Honda Civic, Subaru BRZ, or Toyota GR86, where maintaining warranty and OEM condition is important.
Most electric exhaust cutout kits also support hidden wiring setups, allowing you to mount the remote control module discreetly without disrupting your car’s interior aesthetic.
Every SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kit includes detailed installation notes, compatibility info, and links to install videos, ensuring a smooth process whether you're working in a garage or at home.
Exhaust Cutout Controls: Remote, Hardwired, or Vacuum?
The SPELAB Exhaust Cutout Kits aren't just versatile in size and structure—they also offer flexible control options to match different user preferences. Most electric exhaust cutout models come with remote controls, and some advanced versions support both wired and vacuum control systems.
Wireless Remote Control
This is the most popular option. Once installed, you can open or close the cutout with a simple click, switching between stealth and aggressive modes instantly. SPELAB’s remote systems are highly responsive and work at distances up to 10–30 meters—perfect for sedans, trucks, or show cars.
The remotes use CR2016 ×2 or CR2032 ×1 coin batteries, which are easy to replace and typically last over 12 months. Compact and lightweight, the remote can be clipped to your keychain or stored in the glove box for quick access.
Wired Toggle Switch
For users who prefer tactile control—like track drivers or performance tuners—a wired switch may be a better fit. SPELAB offers optional toggle buttons that can be mounted inside your cabin or dash, giving you hands-on feedback and faster engagement.
Vacuum-Controlled Cutouts
If you drive in wet, snowy, or off-road conditions, vacuum-operated cutouts are a solid option. These cutouts use the engine's vacuum pressure to open and close the valve, eliminating reliance on electrical components and improving reliability.
Some Be-Cut + Vacuum exhaust cutout kits from SPELAB use this hybrid approach for enhanced durability and precise control, making them ideal for heavy-duty or weather-prone use cases.
In summary:
-
Remote control is best for daily use and visual simplicity.
-
Wired switches are suited for high-frequency toggling or racing setups.
-
Vacuum control is ideal for rugged or moisture-prone conditions.
Choose the right setup based on your driving style, environment, and vehicle platform.

Having trouble keeping clap rings on the hose and pipe they keep blowing off when boost pressure coming up.
Perfect fitment and function.
I have a 2005 ram with the 5.7 I had a 2018 challenger with duel coil packs so I got this valve cover to fit and used the mmx adapters and boom! Looks amazing. Only thing is the screws and lock washers are not good...torque specs will break the lock washers and I think one coil thread hole got stripped but other than that I got it too work. Thanks!
Install was easy as long as you take the fuel line off the manifold and reinstall it after bolting down the intake. It also helps having an intake heater since removing the grid heater. No more check engine lights after a cold start. The quality of Spelabs products are great. And the price point is even better.
combined it with the intake horn, new intercooler and pipe kit. added the valve cover. Seems to function well. instructions were adequate- could be better. I assume a few of the complaints on the reviews may have been instruction related. We will see how it compares- ran stock for 230k- will try this now.
Bought this kit as part of a larger overall DCR Pump conversion. Kit came quick, complete and works as advertised.
Very pleased with spelab. My horn is awesome and arrived in great shape. The heating element however I was not so lucky with. It arrived damaged. I reached out to spelabs support and they promptly sent me a new one free of charge. Installing that tonight. 5 stars
Happy to eliminate the risk from the oem grid heater bolt. This allows way more air than the oem too. I chose red and the red on the horn isn't the same shade as the manifold cover or throttle valve delete that are also spelab but the quality and price point is what I look for
Boost tubes were of quality materials at a much more reasonable price than competitors. Provided much more breathable air for the turbo. The only thing that would have been nicer, is a more detailed instruction sheet. Web site linked a video install that was not as clear on details. Figured it out. As everone else said, "pain in the but install".
Was a simple install. The install videos helped a lot. Quality parts. Truck runs great. Sounds even better!
The CCV reroute kit works great and was very easy to install
Packaged well. Had the bungs welded on then wired everything up. Cheaper than other brands, they work as they should. I will say I'm nervous and hope they stand up to use, since it goes directly into your engine if they break or fall apart. Haven't started it cold yet, but tested each that they glow. Yes I did 2 since I live where it can get -60F.
Ordered basically all the physical delete parts for my truck through Spelabs. Every part fit perfectly without adjustments and when I had questions about my package they were very fast to respond. Absolutely recommend ordering from here.
Fitment was very tight especially on the passenger side. Driver side was easy. Looks great, and im excited about the improved airflow. It has to help. Much larger than stock and bends are smooth. Decent powder coating also. Gets scratched a bit installing. Great overall product. Take the time to rotate the hose clamps so they have the easiest access to tighten and service if needed. One note I have is the driver side pipe had to be removed to get to the radiator drain. Not spelabs fault, its a bad ram design.
Purchased a ccv reroute kit. It was easy to install, fits well, quality parts. I plan on using this company for my EGR delete also. The power stroke kit comes with everything needed. I highly recommend.
