Differential Cover FAQ - SPELAB Auto Parts

Start with your vehicle year and model, then confirm the axle model, bolt count, front or rear position, and cover shape. Vehicle fitment helps narrow the search, but axle details confirm the actual fit.

Check the axle tag, VIN-based axle code, service records, casting marks, factory cover shape, and bolt count. If the vehicle has been modified or axle-swapped, inspect the axle itself.

Usually no. Front and rear axles often use different housings, cover shapes, fill plug positions, and clearance requirements. Always confirm whether the product is for the front axle or rear axle.

Not automatically. Standard Dana 44 and Dana Advantek axles may use different cover shapes and bolt patterns. If your Jeep uses M186 or M200 Advantek axles, choose a cover listed for that specific axle.

It can on some setups. Thicker covers with cooling fins or added capacity may extend farther than the factory cover. Check clearance if your truck has a lift kit, aftermarket track bar, skid plates, steering changes, or an oversized spare tire.

No. Some aftermarket covers place the fill plug higher for access, but overfilling can cause oil aeration, foaming, leaks, or fluid coming out of the axle vent. Follow the product instructions or factory fluid capacity guidance.

It depends on the axle and cover design. Some installations use gear-oil-resistant RTV, some use a gasket, and some can use either. Clean the mating surface carefully and follow the product instructions.

No. A cover will not fix worn gears, bad bearings, incorrect backlash, or internal axle damage. If the axle already makes noise, inspect the differential before replacing only the cover.
