I originally had the Banks Monster Ram intake with grid heater delete, and costed $1200. Recently I decided to give Spelab a try for their 3.5” pusher style intake with grid heater delete. Fraction of the price and performs the same. Only regret I have was my purchase of Banks.

I am very happy with my unpainted cast aluminum cover. I didn’t have any issues with fitment or hardware / sight glass installation. It looks great inside and out. I wish I would’ve taken a picture before reinstalling the spare tire.

SOTF (Shift‑On‑The‑Fly) Switch FAQ

A SOTF (Shift‑On‑The‑Fly) switch is a rotary or push‑button controller that lets you change your diesel truck’s performance tune while driving, without stopping or connecting a laptop. It plugs into your vehicle’s diagnostic port or existing tuning harness.

The switch selects between pre‑loaded tune files stored in your engine control unit (ECU). When you turn the knob, it sends a signal to the ECU to activate a different tune map, instantly changing power, torque, and transmission behavior.

Yes. The switch itself is just a selector. Your ECU must already be flashed with a multi‑tune file that supports SOTF functionality. This requires a tuning device (like EZ Lynk, EFI Live, or a custom tuner) and a compatible tune package.

SPELAB switches are designed to work with popular tuning platforms:

  • EZ Lynk – most common for Ford Powerstroke and Duramax.
  • EFI Live – widely used for Duramax (LB7, LBZ, LMM, LML).
  • Custom tuning suites that offer multi‑position SOTF support.

Always verify with your tuner that your specific tune file supports the switch.
  • 5‑mode – five distinct tune profiles (e.g., Stock, Tow, Economy, Performance, Race).
  • DSP5 – a specific five‑position tuning standard for Duramax engines, often used with EFI Live.

The number of positions matches the number of tune files loaded in your ECU.

Yes, most DIYers can install it in under an hour with basic tools. The process involves:

  1. Routing the wiring harness from the OBD‑II port to your chosen switch location.
  2. Connecting power and ground.
  3. Mounting the switch and securing the wiring.
