Duramax Tuner Delete Kit
What Is the Duramax Tuner Delete Kit?
The Duramax Tuner Delete Kit from SPELAB is a powerful upgrade designed for GM diesel trucks, delivering smoother throttle response, increased horsepower, and simplified emissions management. Unlike universal tuners, this kit is customized for the unique fuel delivery and engine control characteristics of Duramax engines, particularly the 6.6L LMM, LML, and L5P engines.
Whether you drive a 2014 GMC Sierra 2500HD LML Duramax or a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD L5P, this delete tuner offers tailored ECU recalibration that removes DPF, EGR, and DEF systems without affecting drivability or towing capability.
These delete kits are especially valuable for owners who frequently face DEF injector failures, excessive regen cycles, or power limitations during high-load hauling. With options like the Mini Maxx V1 for older models and the advanced OBDii Flash Delete Tuner for L5P Duramax, SPELAB offers solutions that integrate seamlessly with your truck’s electronics.
And for drivers looking to unlock full potential, a tuned L5P with this kit can yield up to +120 HP, transforming both work and off-road applications.
Duramax Engines & Tuning Differences Explained
When selecting a tuner for Duramax, it’s essential to know which engine generation your truck uses. While GM’s 6.6L Duramax lineup includes engines like LB7, LLY, LBZ, LMM, LML, and L5P, the SPELAB Duramax tuner delete kit is specifically built for LMM, LML, and L5P engines only. These models include full emissions systems (DPF, EGR, DEF), which SPELAB’s tuner is designed to delete safely and effectively.
Here’s what each supported platform includes:
-
LMM (2007.5–2010) – Introduced the DPF system. Requires a capable LMM tuner like the Mini Maxx V1 for DPF/EGR removal.
-
LML (2011–2014) – Added full DEF systems alongside DPF and EGR. Best paired with the Mini Maxx V2 or other advanced LML Duramax tuner options.
-
L5P (2017–2023) – Uses a locked ECM, which cannot be tuned using traditional handheld devices. SPELAB provides a dedicated OBDii Flash Delete Tuner for L5P that supports full emissions delete via OBD without ECU removal.
If you own a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD LML Duramax, you’ll benefit from the Mini Maxx V2 with full DPF/DEF delete. For a 2021 GMC Sierra 3500HD L5P, SPELAB’s L5P Flash Tuner offers a secure and non-invasive solution to remove all emissions systems while gaining up to +120 HP.
SPELAB Duramax Tuner Delete Product Line Overview
SPELAB offers a targeted lineup of Duramax tuner delete solutions built to match specific engine generations and emissions control needs. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, each product is optimized for either the LMM, LML, or L5P Duramax platform. Whether you need a reliable lmm tuner or a cutting-edge flash solution for a tuned L5P, SPELAB has a delete tuner engineered for your exact application.
Mini Maxx V1 – For LMM Duramax (2007.5–2010)
The Mini Maxx V1 is SPELAB’s trusted entry-level option for early DPF-era Duramax trucks. It supports DPF and EGR delete, offers multiple power levels, and uses SD card-based updates. If you drive a 2009 GMC Sierra 2500HD LMM, this tuner provides dependable, no-frills performance and regen elimination.
Mini Maxx V2 – For LML Duramax (2011–2014)
The Mini Maxx V2 expands functionality to include full DEF delete, along with DPF and EGR removal. It supports SOTF (Shift-On-The-Fly), improved calibration response, and broader tuning flexibility. For 2012–2014 Silverado 2500HD LML trucks, it’s the ideal mid-range delete tuner with real-time control over power levels.
OBDii Flash Delete Tuner – For L5P Duramax (2017–2023)
The OBDii Flash Delete Tuner is SPELAB’s flagship device for L5P Duramax engines. Since L5P ECUs are factory-locked, this unit uses over-the-OBD flash to install delete files—no ECM removal necessary. It enables full DEF, DPF, and EGR delete, and is ideal for tuned L5P builds where simple plug-and-play tuning is required.
Tuner For GM Duramax L5P – Alternative L5P-Specific Delete Option
SPELAB also offers a dedicated Tuner For GM Duramax L5P, designed with compatibility across 2017–2023 Chevrolet Silverado & GMC Sierra 2500/3500HD 6.6L engines. This unit supports the same emissions delete functions as the OBDii version but may offer pre-loaded or simpler configuration options for customers seeking rapid setup without custom tunes.
Whether you’re driving a 2021 Silverado 3500HD L5P or a 2010 Sierra LMM, each delete tuner is matched to the emissions profile and ECU behavior of its platform. This minimizes install risk and maximizes performance reliability.
Installation Tips & Platform-Specific Warnings for Duramax Delete Kits
Installing a Duramax tuner delete kit may sound straightforward, but success depends on strict attention to platform-specific requirements. SPELAB strongly recommends following the correct procedure based on whether you’re working with an LMM, LML, or L5P Duramax system. Skipping key steps or using incompatible accessories can trigger failed installs, engine recovery mode, or even ECM lockouts.
Here are key best practices:
For LMM & LML Duramax:
-
Use a 10A+ battery charger during ECU flashing. Voltage drops are the most common reason for error codes like 399 or 327 during install.
-
Always disconnect the negative battery terminal before connecting your tuner.
-
Ensure the SD card is FAT32 formatted and properly loaded with the latest update files from SPELAB’s official update agent.
-
When installing a Mini Maxx V1 or V2 tuner, wait 3–5 minutes after flashing before restarting the truck.
-
After install, go to Diagnostics > Clear DTCs, then check Vehicle Setup > Defueling for warm-up mode settings.
For L5P Duramax:
-
Only use the OBDii Flash Delete Tuner or Tuner for GM Duramax L5P—traditional tuners do not work.
-
Plug the bypass cable into the correct pin slot (5th down on the green connector behind the dash).
-
Never unplug or power down the tuner while it’s writing files. Doing so will trigger recovery mode, requiring dealer reflash.
-
Do not attempt to load Mini Maxx firmware on L5P units—this will brick the device.
Many installation issues stem from missteps like skipping the bypass cable, selecting the wrong vehicle type, or using SD cards larger than 8GB. Following SPELAB’s official instructions and update process is critical for a smooth tuning experience.

Very impressed with the quality of the cooler. Couldn’t find any instructions for the install. However, I was able to figure it out and plan to post a video for anyone else who may need help with the install.
Installed this on my 2015 6.7 Powerstroke and everything fit perfectly. Quality parts, straightforward install, and noticeable improvement in engine temps and reliability. Would definitely recommend this kit to anyone doing an EGR delete.
Installed on a 2019 Ram cab and chassis with no issues. Fitment was good, quality looks solid, and throttle response feels better. Definitely recommend this intake horn/grid heater upgrade.
Its worked perfectly so far. Make sure to buy one that is the correct size and that there is room for it. The motor is larger then I expected but made it work and ive used it everytime I drive
Perfect fit, excellent craftsmanship, great look,I would recommend this to others
I am very happy with my unpainted cast aluminum cover. I didn’t have any issues with fitment or hardware / sight glass installation. It looks great inside and out. I wish I would’ve taken a picture before reinstalling the spare tire.

FAQS
No. Once the Duramax tuner delete kit is installed, the custom tuning remains in the ECU even if you unplug the tuner. However, the vehicle will default to the “No Power” mode unless the tuner is plugged in to switch levels.
These codes often indicate incomplete DEF delete or sensor misconfiguration. Make sure all sensors are unplugged and that you’re running the latest firmware version for your lml duramax tuner.
A: No. The L5P ECM is encrypted, and traditional tuners like Mini Maxx V1/V2 will not work. You must use the OBDii Flash Delete Tuner or Tuner for GM Duramax L5P, both designed specifically for 2017–2023 engines.
Try removing the tuner, disconnecting battery terminals, and using a 10A charger to fully recharge both batteries. Reconnect everything and try again. Also, verify that the SD card is inserted fully and contains the correct update files.
On some LML and L5P trucks, improper cable routing near the instrument cluster or radio harness can cause CAN bus interference. Reroute cables away from these systems and reboot. In most cases, unplugging the tuner temporarily restores function.
- #399/#327 – SD card issue or voltage loss during flash
- C747 – Locked ECM or incompatible vehicle (common on commercial chassis models)
Solution: Recheck SD card format (FAT32, ≤8GB), ensure you’ve selected the correct platform, and use a constant-voltage battery charger.
