Dodge Ram HD Diesel CCV
Inside the Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel CCV System – Managing Pressure in a High-Output Diesel
Since 2007.5, the Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel diesel engine found in RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks has been a workhorse for heavy-duty, commercial, and off-road applications. As a high-compression, direct-injected inline-six platform, the Ram 2500/3500 truck engine naturally generates a significant amount of blow-by pressure—making the CCV (Crankcase Ventilation) system a critical component in maintaining engine balance.
In its stock form, the CCV system relies on an integrated breather path within the valve cover and the CV52001 CCV filter to separate and recirculate oil vapor back into the intake. While this closed-loop design meets EPA emissions requirements, it quickly becomes problematic under heavy load, high RPM, or extended operation.
The Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel CCV filter is the system’s last line of defense—and once it becomes saturated, it can trigger a chain reaction of issues: oil leaks at the turbo inlet, increased oil consumption, and premature soot buildup in the EGR system. These problems are especially common in commercial RAM chassis like the 5500 series.
The Stock CCV Filter Is More Than a Mess—It’s a Pressure Problem Waiting to Happen
Many RAM owners assume the Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel CCV filter (like the CV52001) is simply designed to trap oil mist—but in reality, it also regulates crankcase pressure. As the filter becomes saturated over time, the CCV system's ability to vent pressure diminishes, leading to pressure buildup inside the crankcase.
This imbalance often causes turbo seal leaks, valve cover seepage, and crankshaft seal distortion—symptoms that are frequently misdiagnosed as oil brand issues or piston wear. These problems escalate rapidly in high-heat environments or during frequent towing and hill climbs, where CCV filter saturation may occur in less than 40,000 miles.
Rather than repeatedly replacing filters, many Ram 2500/3500 truck owners opt for a permanent solution: installing a ccv delete Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel or a Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel ccv filter delete kit to eliminate the bottleneck entirely and restore proper pressure balance.
Delete vs. Replace – Why More Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel Owners Are Ditching the Filter
While the factory recommends replacing the ccv filter Dodge Ram 6.7 diesel every 67,500 miles, many RAM truck owners are beginning to question the practicality of this recurring maintenance. For commercial vehicles, tow rigs, or high-use fleets, frequent CCV filter replacements come with not only parts costs, but also valuable downtime.
Installing a Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel ccv delete kit changes that logic. By eliminating the oil vapor recirculation loop and routing crankcase gases to a catch can or atmospheric vent, owners bypass filter life limitations entirely—and actively solve the pressure buildup and intake contamination at the source.
An added benefit? Lower intake temperatures. In the factory setup, blow-by gases are fed back into the turbo inlet, coating the intercooler and increasing intake air temps. A reroute kit stops this from happening, giving your engine cleaner, cooler air to work with.

Engine Bay Routing Tips – Creating a Safe Vent Path for Your Ram 2500/3500 truck CCV Delete Kit
When installing a Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel ccv delete kit, it’s important to recognize that engine bay layouts differ slightly across RAM model years. For example, 2010–2012 RAM 2500 and 3500 trucks have a tighter passenger-side engine bay, with the exhaust manifold, main harness, and airbox located closer together. This can make hose routing more challenging.
To ensure proper airflow and long-term reliability, here are some key routing recommendations when installing a CCV PCV reroute engine ventilation kit:
- Keep hoses away from high-temperature zones like the exhaust manifold or EGR cooler
- Mount your breather filter or catch can near the passenger-side shock tower for easier access
- On commercial trucks like RAM 4500/5500, consider routing through the frame or chassis support rails to create a clear, cool discharge path
- For vent-to-atmosphere setups, add a breather filter to prevent dust from entering during pressure fluctuations
Proper routing and placement reduce the chance of heat damage, hose failure, or system blockage—and ensure your CCV reroute kit performs at its best without triggering fault codes.
Post-Delete Maintenance – From Filter Replacement to Oil Vapor Management
Once you’ve installed a Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel ccv filter delete kit, you’ll no longer need to replace the stock CV52001 filter—but that doesn’t mean the system is completely maintenance-free. Since a reroute system vents blow-by gases outside the intake tract, it still accumulates oil mist and condensation over time.
To keep your system running clean and efficiently, follow these suggested maintenance practices:
- With a catch can setup, check and drain the reservoir every 3,000–5,000 miles, depending on your driving style, load conditions, and engine wear
- Inspect hoses and fittings regularly for aging, leaks, or loosening—especially in high-heat or dusty environments
- Deep-clean the catch can every 10,000–15,000 miles to prevent carbon buildup and ensure clear airflow
- For breather filter systems, clean or replace the filter element during routine oil changes
This shift from “scheduled replacement” to “visual check + vapor control” offers lower maintenance costs, requires no ECU tuning or tools, and is ideal for high-mileage or commercial RAM applications.
Legal Notice – When and Where a CCV Delete Kit Is Allowed
While a Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel ccv delete kit offers clear benefits in pressure control and maintenance reduction, it still qualifies as an emissions system modification. According to U.S. EPA standards—and stricter states like California under CARB regulations—altering or removing emissions-related equipment may be illegal for vehicles driven on public roads.
To help users stay compliant, SPELAB clearly states:
- These kits are not approved for use on registered highway vehicles
- Recommended for off-road, agricultural, racing, or non-registered trucks
- Use of this product may result in inspection failure or warranty void in certain jurisdictions

These guys are great. They have fast shipping and their product is great. I wish they had more parts for my truck but they cant make them all i suppose. They added quite a bit of HP to my build. It turned out great
Best investment i bought and proud to have from SPELAB
Instructions were great, could
Be more detailed but overall great product, install wasn’t bad at all, unfortunately snapped oil dipstick tube following instructions but other than that I would say the plugs in the intake could’ve been put in prior rather than leaving room for install error
Very nice
Good products great pricing
Works great, find out how to wire it on YouTube if you aren’t sure, super easy though only two wires
this 2017 3500 Ram with now 111274 miles was used by PO to pull 5th wheel and now it pulls a 30 ft airstream TT.. I change out fluid at 96K with OEM cover and started looking for replacement.. this is great with magnetic drain plugs which is a great help as we change out oil every 35K miles as we tow a lot..
This new alum cover with fins is much like the AAM unit used on teh HO engines from factory with not quite the amount of and placement of fins but in the end this accomplished the goal of keeping the fluid cooler especially when towing.
One thing i did notice was the no actual instruction on what was proper level of oil in sight glass.. Usually on OEM cover you fill till the oil dribbles out the fill plug on cover and that if good..
on this model I noticed the sight glass was lower than the OEM plug determining the level need to be not the middle of the sight glass but at the TOP of the sight glass.. just saying.. the inside has fluid diversion fins so help move the oil to ponion gear and the side bearing on housing..
The fit and finish are great and it looks super cool now in the alum color.. I though about spray painting and sanding the edge of the fins to have that nice contrast but left it silver.
highly recommend and the price is right..
Order came in a few days earlier than the expected delivery day pretty easy install it makes the engine may look a lot better
I purchased a pair of Spelab Electric Cutouts for my BMW. Everything in the kit was shipped quickly, was perfectly packaged and the quality of their product is top notch. I installed the cutouts and I couldn't happier with the way they work. I was even able to pair the remote to the Homelink buttons to open and close the valves.
Hoping to gain a sponsorship soon I use yalls parts on my personal build and customers builds
Very good quality kit and was easy to install!! I highly recommend it!!
Excellent quality product that definitely delivers a difference in throttle response. You can tell that the engine is breathing much better. I highly recommend this to everyone out there. Shipping was fast too!! And to top it off, the dreaded engine killing grid heater plate is gone for good! Look how bad the grid heater was after only 46,000 mi. You can barely see thru the grids. Ridiculous design by Cummins/Ram. They should be ashamed for putting that piece of junk on such a good engine. Next up, turbo tubes!
Fit my 08 6.4 extended cab just fine. Sounds great with a 5x7 tip
I have always used there products and customers always are happy
Was on the fence between the 4 or 5…but definitely glad I went with the 5! Fits perfect and sounds amazing!!
