Dodge Ram HD Diesel Truck Tuner Delete Kit
What Is a Dodge Ram HD Diesel Tuner Delete Kit?
The Dodge Ram HD Diesel Tuner Delete Kit is a performance-focused solution designed specifically for Dodge RAM trucks running the 6.7L diesel engine. Unlike universal tuners, this delete kit by SPELAB integrates deeply with the engine’s ECM, providing precise control over emissions system removal—namely DEF, DPF, and EGR.
Key Functions:
- Reprograms the ECU to disable emissions-related components
- Supports DEF delete kit for Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel
- Includes optional CCV reroute features
- Improves fuel efficiency and throttle response
- Reduces regeneration cycles and system faults
This makes it especially valuable for owners of 2013–2018 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7L Diesel, who commonly experience high exhaust temps, cold-start hesitation, and repeated warning lights related to emissions.
Platform-Specific Design
As a specialized extension of the SPELAB Tuner Delete family, the Dodge Ram HD diesel truck delete kit is not a one-size-fits-all solution. It’s engineered around the unique operational logic of 2006–2021 Dodge RAM 5.9L / 6.7L diesel trucks, including:
- ECM protocol compatibility
- Torque and RPM limiter control
- Optimized throttle mapping for towing and off-road conditions
Compatible Vehicles for Dodge Ram HD Diesel Truck Delete Tuner
When selecting a delete tuner for Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel, compatibility is critical. The SPELAB Tuner Delete Kit is built to support a wide range of Dodge RAM diesel trucks from 2006 to 2021, with tuning strategies tailored to both the 5.9L and 6.7L engine platforms. For example, the 2006–2012 Dodge RAM 2500 5.9L Cummins may require different tuning files and bypass logic compared to the 2013–2018 Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel models, which have more complex ECM encryption and updated emission sensors.
This kit is fully compatible with:
- 2007.5–2012 RAM 2500/3500 6.7L Diesel
- 2013–2018 RAM 2500/3500 6.7L Diesel (including Aisin & 68RFE transmission variants)
- Select support for 2019–2021 RAM Diesel Truck with updated firmware and bypass cable
Understanding these year splits is essential. Earlier Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel engines (pre-2012) tend to be more forgiving with tuning and require fewer harness mods. In contrast, 2013+ trucks often demand specific hardware setups like a Bypass Cable to successfully complete a DEF delete and avoid “Recovery Mode” issues.
Choosing the correct Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel delete kit with tuner ensures smoother installation, fewer error codes, and complete access to tuning features like SOTF (Shift-On-The-Fly), power level switching, and throttle limiter adjustments.
Available Dodge Ram Diesel Truck Delete Kit Options and Functional Differences
SPELAB offers multiple versions of the Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel delete kit with tuner to meet different performance goals and use cases. Whether you’re a commercial RAM owner focused on towing or a diesel enthusiast looking to unleash maximum power, there’s a delete package that fits your build. The two most popular configurations include:
Standard Kit: EGR + DPF + DEF Delete
This setup is ideal for most users. It removes three major emissions components and optimizes ECU tuning to improve fuel economy and reduce regen frequency. For example, owners of a 2014 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7L diesel truck often see gains of +60 to +80 HP post-install, along with complete elimination of DEF-related error codes and filter clogging.
Enhanced Kit: EGR + DPF + CCV + DEF Delete
This option adds a CCV (Crankcase Ventilation) reroute, which is especially useful in cold climates or heavy-duty applications. It's highly recommended for 2015–2018 RAM 3500 6.7L diesel truck models with Aisin transmissions, where the CCV system is prone to backpressure or condensation-related faults.
When it comes to tuners, SPELAB recommends:
- Mini Maxx V1 – Best for 2007.5–2012 models, fast flash times, multi-channel data support, but limited compatibility with newer ECMs.
- Mini Maxx V2 – Designed for 2013–2021 trucks, supports SOTF (Shift-On-The-Fly), live data displays, and better overall stability.
For drivers looking to change power levels on the fly—such as those using 2016 Ram 2500 6.7L diesel truck for both daily driving and towing—the Mini Maxx V2 combined with a full delete kit is the top-tier solution.
Performance Gains & Real-World Results from the Dodge Ram Diesel Delete Kit
Installing a Dodge Ram Diesel Truck delete tuner leads to immediate improvements in power output and engine responsiveness. Based on real-world data, a properly tuned Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel delete kit with tuner can deliver gains of +60 to +100 horsepower and up to 180 lb-ft of additional torque—ideal for towing, off-roading, or heavy-duty work applications. For example, many 2017 Dodge Ram 2500 6.7L diesel truck owners report that after completing an EGR/DPF/DEF delete, regen cycles are eliminated, engine temps remain steady, and throttle response becomes noticeably smoother.
The DEF delete kit for Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel also shows strong gains in fuel economy. On average, users report 3–6 MPG improvements, with some 2015 Ram 3500 6.7L diesel trucks running the Mini Maxx V2 tuner seeing up to a 7 MPG increase on highway drives. In long-haul or commercial use cases, this translates directly into lower fuel costs and improved operational efficiency.
Another key advantage is improved reliability in extreme environments. After completing a full CCV reroute, owners in colder climates no longer face warning lights from CCV freezing or pressure build-up. This is especially important for 2016–2018 6.7 Diesel-powered RAMs, where complete delete setups paired with SPELAB’s custom tuning files help eliminate recurring CELs and common DTC codes such as P051C, P259F, and P24DA.
Installation Best Practices & Common Mistakes for Dodge Ram Diesel Truck Delete Kits
While SPELAB’s Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel tuner delete kits are designed for DIY-friendly installation, proper execution is crucial—especially on sensitive ECM-equipped models like the 2013–2018 Dodge RAM 2500/3500 diesel trucks. Most installation failures, recovery mode lockouts, or error codes result from skipped prep steps, unstable voltage, or firmware mismatches. Below are essential tips and common pitfalls to avoid:
Before You Start:
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent power fluctuations during tuning.
- Use a dedicated 10A+ constant current charger to maintain stable voltage during the flash process—low voltage is the #1 cause of failed ECU writes.
- Only use SD cards formatted to FAT32 (4–8GB recommended) and loaded with firmware from SPELAB’s official update tool.
Common Installation Mistakes:
- Bypass cable not installed (required for 2018+ RAM trucks) — will cause the tuner to freeze on the “turn key to run” prompt.
- Interrupted power or cable unplugged during tuning — often triggers error codes #399 / #327 or “engine recovery mode.”
- Incorrect vehicle selected in the menu — causes “unable to load” messages or soft-bricking of the ECU.
- Trying to tune unsupported models (like RAM 4500 or early fleet-spec trucks) — results in error codes #294 / C747.
Pro Tips for a Smooth Install:
- After install, do not start the truck immediately. Turn ignition off and wait 3–5 minutes before cycling power.
- On first boot-up, go directly into "Diagnostics" and clear any DTCs.
- Check if the truck is in Warm-Up Mode via Menu > Vehicle Setup > Defueling.
- For the first 100 miles, run in Tow or No Power mode to allow the system to stabilize.
Using the delete tuner for Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel with the correct method drastically reduces the risk of failed flashes, locked ECMs, or tuning modes not working—especially in cold-weather conditions or heavy-load operations.
FAQ
Q1: Do I need to keep the tuner plugged in after completing the delete?
A: No, once the tune is installed, you can unplug your Dodge Ram 6.7L Diesel delete tuner from the OBD port. The custom tuning stays stored in your ECU. However, without the tuner connected, the truck will default to "No Power" mode after a few drive cycles. The delete remains active, but power levels can't be switched.
Q2: Why is my Check Engine Light (CEL) still on after the delete?
A: Make sure all sensors for the EGR, DPF, DEF, and CCV systems are unplugged. Also verify that you're running the latest SPELAB firmware. Some codes—like P24DA or P051C—may require a specific tune file to fully suppress. Try clearing the codes after updating the firmware.
Q3: Is the bypass cable required for 2018+ RAM models?
A: Yes. All 2018+ Dodge RAM 6.7L Diesel trucks require a red-stripe Bypass Cable to communicate with the ECM. Without it, the tuner may freeze on “turn key to run” or trigger engine recovery mode.
Q4: Can I delete only the DEF system and keep the DPF or EGR?
A: Technically yes, but it's not recommended. The ECM logic expects all emissions systems to work together. Deleting just one may confuse the computer and lead to CELs or reduced performance. SPELAB advises deleting at least the DPF and DEF together for optimal results.
Q5: What's the difference between Mini Maxx V1 and V2?
- Mini Maxx V1 – Great for 2007.5–2012 models. Fast flash speeds, stable performance, but not compatible with newer ECMs.
- Mini Maxx V2 – Designed for 2013–2021 trucks. Supports SOTF (Shift-On-The-Fly), real-time data, and updated firmware. It's the better choice for most users.
Q6: Can I adjust tire size and correct my speedometer with the tuner?
A: Yes, Mini Maxx V2 supports tire size and TPMS adjustments. However, note that some models may not support syncing changes to the RPM gauge. It's best to configure tire size changes before flashing the ECU.

Best investment i bought and proud to have from SPELAB
Instructions were great, could
Be more detailed but overall great product, install wasn’t bad at all, unfortunately snapped oil dipstick tube following instructions but other than that I would say the plugs in the intake could’ve been put in prior rather than leaving room for install error
Very nice
Good products great pricing
Works great, find out how to wire it on YouTube if you aren’t sure, super easy though only two wires
this 2017 3500 Ram with now 111274 miles was used by PO to pull 5th wheel and now it pulls a 30 ft airstream TT.. I change out fluid at 96K with OEM cover and started looking for replacement.. this is great with magnetic drain plugs which is a great help as we change out oil every 35K miles as we tow a lot..
This new alum cover with fins is much like the AAM unit used on teh HO engines from factory with not quite the amount of and placement of fins but in the end this accomplished the goal of keeping the fluid cooler especially when towing.
One thing i did notice was the no actual instruction on what was proper level of oil in sight glass.. Usually on OEM cover you fill till the oil dribbles out the fill plug on cover and that if good..
on this model I noticed the sight glass was lower than the OEM plug determining the level need to be not the middle of the sight glass but at the TOP of the sight glass.. just saying.. the inside has fluid diversion fins so help move the oil to ponion gear and the side bearing on housing..
The fit and finish are great and it looks super cool now in the alum color.. I though about spray painting and sanding the edge of the fins to have that nice contrast but left it silver.
highly recommend and the price is right..
Order came in a few days earlier than the expected delivery day pretty easy install it makes the engine may look a lot better
I purchased a pair of Spelab Electric Cutouts for my BMW. Everything in the kit was shipped quickly, was perfectly packaged and the quality of their product is top notch. I installed the cutouts and I couldn't happier with the way they work. I was even able to pair the remote to the Homelink buttons to open and close the valves.
Hoping to gain a sponsorship soon I use yalls parts on my personal build and customers builds
Very good quality kit and was easy to install!! I highly recommend it!!
Excellent quality product that definitely delivers a difference in throttle response. You can tell that the engine is breathing much better. I highly recommend this to everyone out there. Shipping was fast too!! And to top it off, the dreaded engine killing grid heater plate is gone for good! Look how bad the grid heater was after only 46,000 mi. You can barely see thru the grids. Ridiculous design by Cummins/Ram. They should be ashamed for putting that piece of junk on such a good engine. Next up, turbo tubes!
Fit my 08 6.4 extended cab just fine. Sounds great with a 5x7 tip
I have always used there products and customers always are happy
Was on the fence between the 4 or 5…but definitely glad I went with the 5! Fits perfect and sounds amazing!!
Wow. That says it all. Fast shipping, looks great big thing is what a difference it makes from stock things just act different with the more air flow.
